Kōkako Conservation

Every adult kōkako, huia, saddleback/tīeke t-shirt sold gives $5 to Pukaha National Wildlife Centre.

Pukaha is New Zealand’s National Wildlife Centre based 20 minutes north of Masterton.  It consists of a 942 hectare podocarp forest into which has been released kiwi, kaka and kōkako.  On site is a visitor centre which has a nocturnal house, theatre, kiwi chick nursery, interactive gallery and café.  View some of NZ’s rare native birds and see conservation in action with Pukaha’s captive breeding programme with kiwi, kaka, kakariki and hihi.  Open to the public every day (except Christmas Day) from 9am –4.30pm.

Support the kokako and buy an adult kōkako huia saddleback/tieke t-shirt.
